Sanskriti K.
The Abyss
She stands in the darkness
Staring into the abyss
Waiting, realizing
That it no longer stares into her
Maybe it is because
It knows
Knows that all she does
Is stare blankly ahead
With no sign of yielding
With no sign of emotion
With no sign of life
With thoughts so dark
They could challenge
The darkness of the abyss
And win
Maybe it is because
It can no longer bear
To hear the screams
That she cannot hide
The agony in each syllable
Getting louder and higher
Breaking even the toughest of glass
And never yielding
Maybe it is because
It can no longer bear
To see her dead eyes
Void of any emotion
Not giving away
What she perceives
as weakness
When it is but human
Maybe it is because
It can no longer bear
To touch her soft skin
With its hands of darkness
Knowing,
What lies beneath
In her dark and twisted
Web of thoughts
Maybe it is because
It can no longer bear
To smell the stench
Of her perfume
That covers up her true scent
Of metal that has long since rusted
And blood
That never quite dries
Maybe it is because
It can no longer bear
To taste the bittersweet pills
Keeping her awake
Keeping her
From falling prey
To the demons
Of her past
Or maybe it is because
She has been broken down
Until she can no longer
Stare into the abyss
So instead
She has become a part of it
