Thunder

Thunder

A loud rumbling or crashing noise

Heard after a lightning flash

Due to the expansion of rapidly heated air

Lightning strikes

And you know what comes after?

Thunder

Rolling over hills of “if only I could…”

Lightning strikes

Silence...

What happens when thunder never comes?

How can you stop a storm?

By biting your tongue

And shutting your eyes

"In one ear, and out the other"

"Close your heart to it"

When I’m shamed for being hungry

The craving to bite my tongue

Until my mouth fills with iron

Is overpowering

When I've been called every name in the book

My eyes close

Faster than the flash

You see before thunder

"You got nothin’ to cry for”

"In one ear, and out the other"

“You should be thankful for the things you have

Not the things you don’t.”

"It's against God; A sin"

"Close your heart to it"

“You wouldn’t make it halfway

To the pearly gates.”

Lightning strike after lightning strike

My thunder claws

At the back of my throat

It wants to be heard

Because you don’t know me

You've got the same value to me

Resembling the way a single raindrop

Means nothing to a thunderstorm

You don’t know my name

You judge me

Because I know how

To mind my business

Why is it okay

To only ever feel okay?

Why aren’t you someone

To rely on, when you’re needed the most?

You love hiding behind that book of yours

When you are no better than me

“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”

Oh how holy you are

I've bit off my tongue and swallowed

I've wired my eyes open

"In one ear... " and kept it there

Tore the doors to my heart off Its hinges

My thunder will roll over hills

Into your home

Down your throat

And bury itself in your chest

And when it’s done

It will leave you

With the bitter aftertaste of

“This has been a long time coming”

My peace is long overdue

Soon my silence will be welcomed

Basking  in the comfort

Of my newly freed thunder
